HP Wants Third Parties Selling Its Cloudware
Back in the olden days, when cloud was still a young thing and not everybody’s middle name, back before the Apotheker distractions and false trails, and before HP, in catch-up mode, started indiscriminately trying to be all things cloud to everybody, it simply wanted to sell its widgetry into the cloud.
That still seemed to be the key takeaway from the jumble of programs and widgetry it announced in Vienna on Wednesday where at least part of its message was a come-on to service providers and resellers.
It wants service providers using its stuff in public, private and hybrid deployments and is willing to educate third parties, even college kids, to help. Only the message gets watered down because HP talks in the same breath about enterprises and government like maybe they’re direct accounts and although it seemed to want to focus on hybrid clouds it couldn’t help throwing in public and private clouds too to make sure it’s touched all the bases.

Virtustream Acquires Enomaly
Virtustream on Thursday announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Enomaly, Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and the deal is expected to close in Q1 of 2012.
Enomaly is credited with pioneering the first cloud brokerage, SpotCloud, which provides a marketplace for buyers and sellers to exchange available compute and storage capacities. Virtustream will make two key enhancements to SpotCloud. First, the company will delay the production launch of SpotCloud 1.0, which is currently in beta release with thousands of registered users, so as to enhance its robustness and security. Secondly, Virtustream will significantly enhance SpotCloud’s workload exchange with the xStream Infrastructure Unit (IU). The IU, invented and patented by Virtustream, is a cloud atomic element - an extensible container of compute, memory, bandwidth and IOPS, smaller than a virtual machine, which enables highly efficient cloud management for customers and industry leading service level guarantees.

December 2011: GovCloud Moves from Policy to Law
Over the past years, government cloud computing has steadily moved forward from it's early beginnings as an interesting curiosity.
Since Sunday's broadcast, I've been asked numerous times about my real answer to the question "Will 'Cloud Computing' Work In White House". Although I would never assume to be in a position to advise the President-elect, I'm more than happy, however, to add my voice to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the distinguished list of contributors that recently released the CSIS Commission on Cybersecurity for the 44th Presidency.
I truly believe that cloud computing technology can be used to implement some of their recommendations. One in particular is their recommendation for a National Office for Cyberspace (NOC) and a new National Security Council Cybersecurity Directorate (NSCCD).

The Economics of Big Data: Why Faster Software is Cheaper
In big data computing, and more generally in all commercial highly parallel software systems, speed matters more than just about anything else. The reason is straightforward, and has been known for decades. Put very simply, when it comes to massively parallel software of the kind need to handle big data, fast is both better AND cheaper. Faster means lower latency AND lower cost.
